tar|pon «TAHR pon», noun, plural -pons or (collectively) -pon.
1. a large, silver-colored fish found in the warmer parts of the Atlantic Ocean; jewfish. The tarpon has large scales, weighs over 100 pounds, and is much sought as a game fish.
2. a similar East Indian species.
